“Shanghai Fiction” tells a story of four people from different generation and social origin at the present day: Yuan Lei, Liu Wei, Hebe Ting, and Johannes Dell. Through the discreet observation and intimate impression of the protagonists, “Shanghai Fiction” gives a sneak peek beyond the façade of China’s social and economy resurrection. In the sidelines, through the digital distortion, which as if it shifted to the alien yet friendly distance: the archive pictures, which characterize the perception on China for the last decades: the long journey, the terrors of Cultural Revolution, the “blue ant” line, Tian An Men slaughter.
